L<\/span>anada, as part of the Amazon, is a veritable treasure trove of plant biodiversity, recognised the world over. However, the economic exploitation of this resource is still limited, despite the wealth of plant species used in food and traditional medicine. In-depth research into the chemical composition and biological properties of these plants, as well as their potential for the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, could stimulate economic and social development while enhancing local knowledge.<\/p>\n

Several laboratories in French Guiana play a key role in this research. The MINEA laboratory works with economic players and civil society to revitalise the region. LEEISA explores the ecology and evolution of Amazonian systems, while Espace-Dev studies the interactions between ecosystems and societies. The COVAPAM research unit focuses on traditional pharmacopoeias and the development of Amazonian plants for the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Finally, TBIP CIIL and Ecofog respectively examine tropical diseases and forest biodiversity in relation to climatic and human pressures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div> \n<\/div><\/div>\n

LEEISA (UAR 3514)<\/strong>
\nSpecialising in the study of Amazonian socio-ecosystems, LEEISA adopts an interdisciplinary approach. It brings together experts in ecology, biology and the social sciences to gain a better understanding of the interactions between biodiversity and human activities in Amazonia.<\/p>\n

ECOFOG (UMR 3451)<\/strong>
\nThis laboratory studies tropical rainforests. Its work focuses on forest biodiversity, biogeochemical cycles and the sustainable management of ecosystems in relation to climate change.<\/p>\n

ESPACE-DEV (UMR 228)<\/strong>
\nFocusing on the development of tropical regions, Espace-Dev analyses spatial dynamics, regional planning and resilience in the face of climatic and socio-economic challenges in French Guiana.<\/p>\n

TBIP-CIIL (UMR)<\/strong>
\nFocusing on infectious diseases, this laboratory works on understanding tropical diseases in French Guiana. It participates in the fight against emerging diseases in collaboration with other health institutions.<\/p>\n

COVAPAM (UR)<\/strong>
\nThis laboratory explores traditional pharmacopoeias and food in Amazonia. It studies local knowledge on the use of medicinal plants, while seeking to develop these resources for public health and innovation in pharmacology.<\/p>\n
