The author presented her book <em>Space, carnival and decolonial Guyana<\/em>, which deals with identity, memory and colonial legacies. Afterwards, a guided practice session gave the students an opportunity for free discussion. They discussed certain extracts, shared their impressions and asked questions. This master class encouraged a lively dialogue between young readers and the author.<\/p>\n<h3>Nolyw\u00e9 Delannon: a committed Guyanese voice<\/h3>\n<p>Nolyw\u00e9 Delannon was born and raised in French Guiana. Today, she is an associate professor at Laval University in Quebec. Her career is a perfect illustration of the strong link between French Guiana and the academic world. In her first book, she offers a bold, decolonial vision of the popular history of French Guiana.<br \/>\nHer style blends humour, criticism and commitment. Thanks to this approach, she is giving a new voice to Guyanese literature.<\/p>\n<h3>A cultural initiative supported by the University<\/h3>\n<p>This literary event at the University of Guyana was made possible by the P\u00f4le des Actions de Valorisation et d'Education (PAVE). The event was organised at the instigation of Audrey Debibakas, vice-president for culture.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to this initiative, the students had a unique experience. They were able to discover a local author, talk directly to her and deepen their understanding of contemporary literature. What's more, this activity promotes Guyana's culture and literary heritage.<\/p>\n<h3>Inspiring cultural openness<\/h3>\n<p>All in all, this literary event at the University of Guyana provided an opportunity to combine discovery, reflection and critical expression.<br \/>\nThe exchanges have strengthened the link between the students and the local creative scene.
