The Observatoire R\u00e9gional du Carnaval Guyanais (ORCG) is organising the Assises du carnaval guyanais, on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 October, in the auditorium of the ENCRE (Ensemble Culturel R\u00e9gional) in Cayenne. The event will take place face-to-face, with restricted access due to the health situation, and will be broadcast live on the Facebook pages of the University of French Guiana and the Collectivit\u00e9 Territoriale de Guyane.<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
\n\t

C <\/span>his event, supported by institutional partners*, is a major step in the process of having \"Touloulou\", the emblematic character of Guyana's carnival, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n

The conference will focus on 6 themes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Passing on the carnival<\/li>\n
  • The evolution of carnival<\/li>\n
  • Economic, tourist and cultural development of the carnival<\/li>\n
  • Carnival, media and digital<\/li>\n
  • Cultural resistance in times of pandemic<\/li>\n
  • What does the future hold for Carnival?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    All these themes will be examined from different angles: academic, political, social, societal and economic.<\/p>\n

    The debates and workshops will have the following concomitant objectives:<\/p>\n

    • Contribute to the UNESCO application file<\/li>\n
    • To explore ways of safeguarding, promoting and passing on the Touloulou heritage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Speakers and contributors include qualified personalities, politicians, scientists, carnival workers, tourism professionals and socio-professionals, and cultural players.<\/p>\n
