In dit academische werk belicht hij het formele karakter van de invoering van de liberale democratie in dit gebied onder Frans bestuur. Zijn historische analyse benadrukt de oppervlakkige aard, in veel opzichten, van de toekenning van burgerlijke en politieke rechten door de julimonarchie in 1830 en de tweede republiek in 1848.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lokale actoren spelen een essenti\u00eble rol in deze studie, die bijna een eeuw beslaat. Ze eisen voortdurend respect voor de politieke rechten die hen in feite worden ontzegd, als gevolg van 'raciale vooroordelen' gesteund door de wetenschappelijke garanties van de negentiende eeuw. De geschiedenis van deze opmerkzaamheid wordt geanalyseerd aan de hand van talrijke documenten en een aantal exemplarische individuele verhalen die de politieke en sociale kwesties belichamen die in de bestreken periode in de Guyanese samenleving speelden.<br \/>\nDe fundamentele vraag van deze studie betreft de vraag naar republikeinse gelijkheid en politieke autonomie van een gebied dat onder koloniale voogdij stond.
