The use of electronic databases is governed by the contractual conditions agreed with the publishers. Generally speaking, it is permitted to consult, download and print articles within reasonable limits and for personal use or for research or teaching purposes. For more specific uses (communication of copies to a third party, insertion of copies on a course site, distribution of copies to students, etc.), please contact your library in advance.

As part of the implementation of the "Digital Scientific Library", the Agence Bibliographique de l'Enseignement Supérieur was commissioned by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research at the end of 2010 to negotiate and acquire resources in the form of national licences drawing on the expertise of the Couperin consortium and INIST-CNRS. The French programme of acquisitions under national licences currently concerns closed collections (archives of scientific periodicals - also known as backfilesThese are not subscriptions to current resources.

  • Médiapart access to all articles in the independent French newspaper Médiapart
  • TheMetaNews Access to the archives of the leading journal on research and researchers, guaranteed to be independent and free of advertising.

  • Digital Media Library The French Overseas Departments and Territories: watch thousands of feature films and documentaries online. Before using the platform, register by choosing the University of French Guiana as your media library in the "DOM-TOM" section.

  • Elibris : Elibris is a platform of more than 30,000 digital books created in partnership with the company Cyberlibris and specially developed for the needs of the UG. All disciplines are covered: economics, management, law, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences, sciences and . You'll find university-level textbooks as well as books on hobbies and cooking recipes. Web access after authentication.
  • Directory of the open access books8729 peer-reviewed academic books from 224 publishers (including Collège de France, CNRS, Presses universitaires de Rennes, etc.). The DOAB aims to list as many books as possible, provided that these publications are distributed in open access and comply with the standards and rules of scientific publishing.
  • Cairn Pocket Encyclopaedias Cairn is a portal for the humanities and social sciences. Its collection includes all the "Que sais-je?" and "Repères" collections. Pocket encyclopaedia more than 1,000 titles.

  • Revues.org, the journal platform A platform for journals in the humanities and social sciences, it currently hosts 400 online journals, representing 100,000 articles, of which 95 % are available in full text.
  • Hypotheses, research notebook platform Founded in 2009, Assumptions At the end of 2014, the site brought together almost 1,000 research notebooks run by a community of 10,000 notebook keepers from all over the world. All the content is freely accessible. Assumptions hosts different types of notebook: researcher's notebook, field notebook, seminar notebook, watchbook, etc. The platform itself is organised into language subdivisions corresponding to communities of French-, German- and Spanish-speaking loggers.
  • Calenda, the humanities and social sciences calendar  : calenda is an online platform dedicated to research news in the humanities and social sciences. It includes open access announcements of scientific events. Calenda publishes conference announcements, full study day and seminar programmes, conference cycles, job offers and research grants, calls for tenders and calls for contributions for conferences, study days or thematic issues of journals, in all languages.

  • Numérique Premium - "Education sciences" collection 154 volumes (published by Retz and ESF) This collection, based on the catalogues of two major publishers in the educational sciences, ESF and Retz, offers a wide choice of theoretical and practical books for students and teachers at all levels, from nursery school to higher education. All issues relating to education are covered: teaching methods and the history of teaching, as well as different educational policies and the recent use of new technologies. Numerous theoretical schools are represented, notably through the works of Rémi Brissiaud and Philippe Meirieu, which have become classics. Taken as a whole, this is an unrivalled reference library.

  • Lextenso This legal database contains articles from newsletters and other publications.  Joly publishings, and newspapers Palai Gazettes and Small posters.
  • Lexis 360 Lexis360, the legal information and research portal, gives you access to the JurisClasseur Encyclopaedias and leading legal journals, as well as methodology and revision sheets.   • The Geological Society The Geological Society is a learned society created at the very beginning of the 19th century in the United Kingdom. It covered the field of geology. Shortly after it was founded, GSL Publishing was established as an associated publishing house. The corpus acquired as part of the National Licences covers 305 ebook titles published by GSL Publishing between 1964 and 2008. It consists of the archives of the "Special Publications" of the "Lyell collection". (national licence)

  • Duke Mathematical Journal all of these Duke Mathematical Journal consists of volumes 1 (1935) to 161 (2012). Published by Duke University Press, the DMJ is one of the leading international journals in mathematics. The DMJ focuses on the most active and influential areas of contemporary mathematics and includes several French Fields medallists on its editorial board. The journal has published the work of Fields medallists Cédric Villani, Ngô Bảo Châu, Jean-Pierre Serre and Artur Avila (national licence).
  • EDP Sciences Journals in physics, astrophysics, engineering sciences and technology, health, life sciences, chemistry, mathematics and computing.
  • Mathscinet : This database provides access to the references of over 550 mathematics journals (research level).
  • Numdam, the French digital mathematics library The full text of research publications in mathematics: journal articles, proceedings of seminars and conferences, books, theses (state doctorates). A large part of the collection has been digitised from the first issue to around 2000 from paper originals. The library acquires more recent articles directly from the publishers who supply them. The full texts can be freely downloaded from this site after a sliding scale of 0 to 10 years.
  • Springer Nature This corpus Springer e-books is made up of 4 collections in mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry and materials science, and engineering sciences. It represents more than 33,000 titles, including the entire output of each publishing year, and is made up of monographs, textbooks, course books, reference works and book series. The period covered goes from the origins up to and including 2013. (national licence) 5,400 research-level mathematics books have been acquired by the university.

  • Engineering techniques : Engineering techniques is the leading technical and scientific publisher. The complete collection gives access to more than 10,000 reference or practical articles and 4,000 news articles. Free content (articles, extracts, white papers) is also available.

Dissertations and theses

Need a brief?  

  • The platform DUMAS (Dépôt Universitaire des Mémoires après Soutenance) is an open archive integrated into the HAL (Hyper articles online), which provides full-text access to the best academic dissertations.
  • The European thesis portal DART-Europe provides access to research dissertations from over 560 universities in 28 European countries,

Need a thesis?  

  • The BU catalogue Armadillo allows you to find and consult theses defended at the UG and the former UAG online,
  • The portal theses.fr lists doctoral theses defended or in preparation, at national level, and provides access to the full-text document where possible,
  • The SUDOC lists French theses in all disciplines, in both paper and electronic versions,
  • Cybertesis, the Latin American online thesis portal, provides references to theses defended in South America.

If the thesis does not exist in electronic form, please contact the ILL service to send the paper version from another university.

Private collections

Manioc digital library

The Manioc digital library brings together more than 20,000 heritage documents (books, images, maps) on the Caribbean, the Guiana Plateau and Amazonia, as well as scientific audio-visual documents (conferences and study days).

The Manioc digital library has set itself the dual objective of promoting both heritage and science. Its content is transdisciplinary, covering all fields of knowledge, from botany and literature to history, geography and economics. This transdisciplinarity is reflected in a wide variety of thematic studies: arts and literature, crafts and colonial trade, culture and the sugar industry, the plantation economy, slavery (the slave trade and its abolition), gold mining, tropical medicine and the Franco-Brazilian dispute, etc.

The University of French Guiana is a member of the Pôle associé interrégional Antilles-Guyane (associated documentary centre with the BNF). As such, the university library participates in the development of  Cassava.

The Amazon fund: all about French Guiana... and its neighbours!

This documentary offering is complemented by a collection of transdisciplinary works devoted to the three Guianas (French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana). Here the humanities, social sciences and exact sciences come together to give you a wide range of tools for understanding this geographical area. Guiana has a special place of honour in this collection, where you can consult encyclopaedias and specialist dictionaries such as the Desormeaux Encyclopaedia, the Mémorial du Bagne de la Guyane and several Creole-French dictionaries. The issues of slavery and indigenous peoples are also well documented.

In addition, the environmental aspects of the region are covered, with a special focus on flora and fauna. You will also find research work by lecturers at the University of Guyana, as well as dissertations and theses defended at the UG. This collection is identified by green labels.

Comic books, manga, novels (science fiction, fantasy, etc.) and DVDs await you in the University Leisure Library on the ground floor. A wide range of comics is available, from the great classics to more contemporary works. Cinema is just as important here, with fiction and documentaries to keep you entertained. A press consultation area is also available!
