The Comm'on Lab "Biodiversity and Amazonian Societies
The UG's Comm'on Lab "Biodiversity and Amazonian Societies" is a bridge between science and Guyanese society. It provides a framework for regular exchanges between the scientific community, citizens and public authorities on the themes of preserving and enhancing biodiversity, sustainable economy and conservation of natural and cultural heritage.
The aim is to bring together the academic world and civil society, including Creole, Amerindian and Businenge cultures, to discuss emerging issues in the region with a view to finding innovative and inclusive solutions. The human and social sciences play a central role in this, to encourage cross-fertilisation between academic and traditional knowledge. The innovative solutions identified receive support from the UG's Sustainable Innovation Department and GDI depending on their degree of maturity.
In order to have a greater impact on society, Comm'on Lab's missions are to :
- Roll out scientific communication and outreach initiatives aimed at the general public, with a view to better disseminating the results of research in the region;
- Supporting citizen participation in research and innovation, including by promoting dialogue between academic and traditional knowledge;
- Strengthening collaboration with the private sector to stimulate innovation and support the drive for green growth and sustainable human development in Amazonia.
