Lhe well-being and safety of staff are key priorities at the University of Guyana. In order to guarantee a safe and healthy working environment, a number of mechanisms have been put in place to report problems, exposure to risk or dangerous situations. The rules of procedure defines a strict prevention framework for all users to ensure optimal working conditions.

A structured prevention system

The use of Occupational Health and Safety Register (OHSR) plays a key role in the occupational risk prevention process. This tool enables you to :

  • Ensure optimum safety conditions for employees and protect their physical and mental health.
  • Encourage employees to express their views on health and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Improve day-to-day working conditions by taking account of feedback from the field.
  • Track the development of risk situations thanks to a detailed history of reports.
  • Gather precise information to help management in its prevention actions.
An OHS register is available in each University building, under the responsibility of the prevention assistant, to ensure that reports are followed up and dealt with.

The right of warning and withdrawal

All employees have the right to alert and withdraw from work in accordance with the procedure, which includes a written record in the register for reporting serious and imminent danger. This information can be sent to the following e-mail address dgi@univ-guyane.fr. To exercise this right, the employee must have reasonable cause to believe that there is a serious and imminent danger to life or health. Lastly, the removal of the employee must not create a new situation of serious and imminent danger for other people.

Reports are directed by the prevention adviser to the Chairman, the Director General of Services and the secretary of the F3SCT, as well as to the prevention manager and assistant of the unit concerned.

The employee must have reasonable cause to believe that there is an immediate danger and must ensure that his or her withdrawal does not create a new dangerous situation for his or her colleagues.

Emergency measures and safety equipment

Emergency instructions are available for various situations, including :

If a unit identifies a need for OHS equipment, it can fill in a health and safety investment request form, which will be analysed to provide an appropriate response.
