médecine de prévention

Lhe role of the Guyana Occupational Health and Prevention Service (SPSTG) is to prevent any deterioration in the health of employees as a result of their work, with the aim of preserving the physical and mental health of employees throughout their career. The preventive medicine service is run by a multi-disciplinary team led and coordinated by an occupational physician. The latter carries out his medical activity in complete independence and in compliance with the provisions of the Public Health Code. He acts in the sole interest of the health and safety of the employees under his supervision.

The Université de Guyane uses the services of the Service de prévention en santé et sécurité au travail de Guyane (SPSTG), which is located at 7 rue de l'Astrolabe in Rémire Montjoly.

  • All University employees must undergo a compulsory medical examination on recruitment and at least every 5 years.
  • Employees who present particular risks (high-risk jobs or jobs requiring special skills, special medical conditions, disabled people and pregnant women) are subject to an annual check-up.
  • Return-to-work visits are also compulsory after an accident at work, long-term sick leave or maternity leave.
  • Medical examinations may be carried out at the request of staff, the administration or the doctor. All members of the Medical Department are bound by professional secrecy.

You can request an appointment with the Occupational Health Department from the Human Resources and Resources Department. In order to provide the occupational physician with the information needed to ensure that your exposure is dealt with appropriately, please fill in and send us your details. How do I report an accident at work?

In the event of an accident occurring at work, the employee must inform or arrange for the immediate superior to be informed within 24 hours and as quickly as possible, giving details of the location and circumstances of the accident and the identity of any witnesses.

You can ask your line manager for a "certificate of assumption of responsibility" for the costs, so that you do not have to pay in advance to healthcare providers. This certificate does not bind the administration as to whether or not the accident is attributable to you. Consequently, if it turns out after examining the case that the accident is not recognised as being attributable to the service, you will have to pay the costs incurred directly to the healthcare providers and then claim reimbursement under the health insurance scheme from your social security fund. In the absence of a certificate of coverage, the costs you have incurred will be reimbursed on presentation of the original treatment records and prescriptions. You do not need to send your claims for reimbursement to your social security fund or your mutuelle. The carte vitale must not be used. Below is the link to the Guide to accidents in the workplace.

How do you declare an occupational illness?

An occupational disease differs from an accident at work in that it is the result of more or less prolonged exposure to a risk that exists in the normal course of work.

Some diseases can appear a long time after exposure (some asbestos-related diseases, for example, can be recognised forty years after exposure).

A distinction is made between :

  • occupational diseases listed in the tables annexed to the Social Security Code, for which the criteria for recognition are defined: designation of the disease, time limit for coverage, minimum duration of exposure to the risk and work likely to cause the disease.
  • The tables of occupational diseases can be consulted on the INRS website.
  • Diseases not listed in the tables of occupational diseases, known as "diseases outside the table".

To declare an occupational illness, you need to go to a doctor to have the injuries diagnosed. The doctor must draw up an "initial medical certificate" indicating the nature of the illness and the site of the lesions resulting from the condition from which you are suffering, the possible link between this pathology and your activity and, if necessary, draw up a notice of work stoppage specifying its duration and the related treatment. This medical certificate must be drawn up as soon as possible.

You must notify your immediate superior as soon as possible and send at least the declaration form and the initial medical certificate and, if applicable, the notice of sick leave.
