Lhe University of Guyana has a specialised training in health, safety and working conditions within the Social Committee of Administration (CSA). This strategic body contributes to social dialogue and human resources policy, guaranteeing a dedicated framework for examining issues relating to health, safety and working conditions.
Regulatory framework and missions
Decree no. 2020-1427 of 20 November 2020 sets out the organisation, composition and operation of this specialised committee. It also applies the non-repealed provisions of Decree no. 82-453 of 28 May 1982, as well as Books I to V of Part Four of the Labour Code. Its remit covers both :
- Consultative powers, enabling it to issue an opinion on documents and projects affecting the health and safety of its employees.
- Powers of investigation, inspection and expert appraisal, essential for the prevention of occupational risks.
Compulsory specialist training consultations
The specialised committee is consulted on :
- Documents relating to the mission;
- Development projects affecting working and safety conditions;
- The introduction of new technologies with a potential impact on employee health and safety;
- Specific measures for certain categories of employee ;
- The annual programme for preventing occupational risks and improving working conditions;
- Certain aspects of preventive medicine.
Opinions and operational skills
Its opinion is also required on :
- Framework for resources dedicated to prevention ;
- Prevention data and documents ;
- Prevention reports and assessments.
At the same time, specialist training plays a key role in the analysis and prevention of occupational risks.
