Lhe University of French Guiana, winner of the "Excellence in all its forms" call for projects funded by the French National Research Agency, has launched the AIBSI (Amazonian Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainable Innovation) project with the ambition of becoming a key player in the field of biodiversity and sustainable innovation in the Amazon in 2023. As part of a consortium between the CTG, CNES, GDI, CNRS and Ifremer, and in partnership with the other research bodies present in the region (IRD, IPG, INRAE, CIRAD, AGROPARISTECH), it supports joint projects on the research-training-innovation continuum with a view to developing an Amazonian model for green growth and sustainable human development.
AIBSI aims to respond to major societal and environmental challenges through a multidisciplinary approach focusing on three academic and societal priorities: sustainable food, global health and sustainable construction. The projects supported by AIBSI will help to provide answers to local and global challenges, such as climate change and the ecological transition, or the development of an innovative economy based on exploiting Amazonian biodiversity. In this way, AIBSI aims to create a crossroads of research excellence for France and Europe in this part of the world.
