Research themes supported by the Doctoral School in the Amazonian context

The "Diversity, Health and Development in Amazonia" Doctoral School (ED 587) has a research project focusing on the major environmental, health and social challenges specific to Amazonia. The research priorities are as follows:

Biodiversity and Ecology Guiana is one of the richest ecosystems in the world, home to exceptional biodiversity. Research in this field focuses on the preservation of flora and fauna, the ecology of tropical forests, the conservation of endangered species and the study of aquatic ecosystems.

Environmental Sciences : Given its unique ecosystem and natural wealth, French Guiana is an ideal location for environmental studies. Researchers are looking at issues relating to the sustainable management of natural resources, the fight against deforestation, the preservation of wetlands and waste management.

Social Sciences and Anthropology The University of Guyana is also interested in the social sciences and anthropology, focusing on the socio-cultural and economic dynamics specific to the region. Research focuses on indigenous communities, colonial history, migration, public policy and economic development.

Public Health and Tropical Medicine Guiana faces unique health challenges, not least because of its location in South America and its tropical climate. Research in this area focuses on neglected tropical diseases, maternal and child health, the fight against epidemics and the promotion of public health.

Education Sciences Education is a crucial area for the development of French Guyana. Research focuses on education policies, teaching in a multicultural environment, teacher training, innovative teaching practices and access to education for all.
