Lhe Espace-Dev joint research unit (Unité Mixte de Recherche Espace pour le Développement) is a multidisciplinary research unit that focuses on characterising and preparing transitions to ensure the viability of the integrated society-environment system. Its work is part of a 'sustainability science' approach, with the aim of co-constructing solutions with local stakeholders and developing data-sharing infrastructures.
Research in French Guiana focuses on local issues such as the energy transition in intertropical zones, the development of environmental sensors and the modelling of complex systems.
Research areas
Energy transition (TRANS-NRJ) Research into regional energy autonomy and the energy transition, particularly in relation to renewable energies and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Water-Earth-Resources-Ecosystems-Society (ETRES) Sustainable management of natural resources (water, land) and ecosystems to promote socio-ecological transitions.
Modelling Analysis and Decision Support in Spatio-temporal Systems (MADES) Development of control and decision support models for complex spatio-temporal systems, with the integration of artificial intelligence.
Socio-ecological cohabitation Studies on the integration of sustainable cohabitation between society and the environment.
STRONG Using time series of radar and optical data to develop generic processing and modelling methods.
Research projects
HYMAZONIE Development of stationary systems based on electrolysis and hydrogen fuel cells in French Guiana.
PERICLIM Study on climate resilience.
SMOL Development of a multi-parameter Love wave probe for environmental monitoring.
SOLAR4ANDES Project to improve knowledge of solar irradiance in the Andes in order to mitigate climate change.
ODI_RA_AA Development of an automatic learning tool for the detection of digestive ova on X-rays.
