The Language Resource Centre (LRC) at the University of Guyana is a space dedicated to helping students, teachers and staff learn and improve their language skills. Whether you want to learn a new language or perfect your command of an existing one, the LRC offers you the tools and support you need to progress at your own pace.

Where is the LRC located?

The CRL is located at Campus Troubiran, Bâtiment M (Recherche - BRCR) - Ground floor, right next to the University Library (BU).

  • Monday to Friday

    • 08:00 - 12:00

    • from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm

  • Closed Thursday afternoon

Teacher attendance

A timetable is posted on the centre's door, showing the availability of English, Spanish and Portuguese teachers to support students in their learning.

A wide range of languages

The LRC offers a wide range of languages to learn, reflecting the cultural diversity of French Guiana and the university's international outlook. You can study :

  • English, essential for studies and international communication.
  • Spanish and Portuguese, key languages in the Amazon basin and for exchanges with neighbouring countries.
  • Regional languages, including Creole and Nenge Tongo
  • Other languages, Depending on demand and partnerships, other languages such as Dutch, Mandarin or Italian may also be offered.

The LRC offers a range of teaching resources to promote effective learning:

  • Multimedia supports Access to online courses, interactive exercises, videos and digital learning platforms for independent practice.
  • Manuals and specialist books A library of language resources, including books, magazines and written material to reinforce your knowledge.
  • Software and applications Use online learning tools, such as grammar software and conversation applications, accessible from the LRC's computers or remotely.

Learn at your own pace

One of the advantages of the LRC is the flexibility it offers. Whether you want to learn on your own or benefit from personalised support, there are several options available:

  • Free access Come and work independently using the resources available, according to your own objectives, or access the online resources that are also available.
  • Supervised courses Conversation workshops and tutoring sessions are offered on a regular basis to help you improve your oral skills in an interactive environment.
  • Preparation for certifications The LRC also offers resources to help you prepare for language certification exams (CLES, TOEIC, TOEFL, DELE, etc.), which are essential for validating your language skills in an academic or professional context.
  • Ciné-club: Film screenings in foreign languages are held regularly. A television is also available for you to watch foreign channels.

Personalised support

The LRC can also provide you with individual support through language instructors who will be on hand to guide you and help you define your objectives and choose the most appropriate resources to help you make effective progress.

How do I access the LRC?

The LRC is located on the Troubiran campus and is open to all University of Guyana students and staff. Access is free of charge, and you can check opening times and registration details at the CRL.
