From 3 to 13 October 2025, the Fête de la Science, a major national event in science outreach, will be held throughout French Guiana. For its 34th edition, the theme will be «Intelligence(s)». This theme, which is essential in French Guiana, highlights biodiversity, cultural diversity and traditional knowledge, while integrating scientific research to rethink our relationship with life, knowledge, technology and the land.
For the 14th year running, the Canopée des Sciences, Guyana's centre for scientific, technical and industrial culture (CCSTI), is coordinating the regional programme with the participation of a number of structures involved in scientific culture.
To mark the occasion, the University of Guyana will be hosting two major events on its campus: the inaugural lecture series on Friday 3 October, followed by the Science Village on Saturday 4 October. These events will provide an opportunity for young and old alike to get together and share their knowledge, popularise science and encourage dialogue between researchers and the general public.
The inaugural lecture series will take place on Friday 3 October from 8.30am to 4pm in Amphithéâtre A. Alongside Mariana Royer, Ambassador for the Fête de la Science in French Guyana and Founder of Bio Stratège, researchers and scientists will be speaking throughout the day to explore and question the many forms that intelligence takes in our territory:
Human intelligence
Understand the mechanisms of the brain and our capacity for adaptation and creativity.
Life intelligence
Observe how plants, animals and ecosystems deploy surprising strategies.
Collective intelligence
Analysing the power of social dynamics, cooperation and shared knowledge.
Artificial intelligence
Examine technological innovations and their impact on our societies.
This event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the diversity of intelligences, put current discoveries into perspective and explore the challenges of tomorrow.

Science Village 2025
The Science Village will take place on Saturday 4 October from 9am to 1pm in the hall of building A. Accessible to children aged 8 and over, the Science Village will offer young and old alike demonstrations of robots programmed with Artificial Intelligence, interactive games on the intelligence of trees, observation of the stratagems of the infinitely small under the microscope and escapade games based on environmental DNA and the Demerara plateau. A unique opportunity to explore different facets of intelligence, talk to specialists and feed your scientific curiosity.
