Doctoral contracts awarded for innovative theses in Amazonia and French Guiana

The Doctoral School at the University of French Guiana is delighted to announce the award of doctoral contracts for seven thesis projects, marking a significant step forward in research in Amazonia and French Guiana.

After deliberating on the allocation of doctoral contracts for 2024, the Doctoral School's Select Committee selected seven exciting topics from the fourteen proposed.
These research projects will explore a range of crucial areas, from public health and tropical ecology to socio-environmental issues and biotechnology.

Here is an overview of the topics selected:

Study of veterinary pathogens at risk of zoonosis and/or of economic importance in the Amazonian environment.
Laboratory: TBIP UMR CIIL (AIBSI funding)

Jaguars and breeders in French Guiana: changing relationships as coastal pastoral socio-ecosystems evolve?
Laboratory: UAR LEEISA (MINISTERE funding)

The Amazonian space: issues of power, knowledge and memory.
Laboratory: UR MINEA (MINISTERE funding)

Study of urban heat islands (UHI) on the Guiana Shield using spatial remote sensing.
Laboratory: UMR Espace Dev (CNES funding)

Impact of maturation on the lipid and polysaccharide compositions of moucaya (Acrocomia aculeata) pulp. Optimisation of nanoformulation processes.
Laboratory: UR COVAPAM (CNES funding)

Innovative epidemiological surveillance tools based on wastewater: application to emerging Amazonian diseases and pathogens of priority interest in French Guiana.
Laboratory: Institut Pasteur de Guyane (IPG) (CNES funding)

Study of the impact of trophic ecology on the composition and activity of the venom of ants in French Guiana.
Laboratory: UMR EcoFog (AIBSI funding)

These thesis projects address crucial issues for the Amazon region and beyond.

They aim not only to enrich scientific knowledge but also to provide innovative and practical solutions to the challenges encountered in various fields.

By encouraging these diverse, interdisciplinary projects, our doctoral school is reaffirming its role as a pillar of scientific and technological development in Amazonia.
