Objectives
This degree is understood as a specialisation within the DEG (Law, Economics and Management) field at the University of Guyana. The AES degree has a dual purpose: to enable students to acquire the knowledge they need to understand how public and private companies operate, and to enable them to move quickly into a professional life in line with the skills they have acquired.
This course meets the needs of regional economic operators for staff trained in Economics, Finance, Law, Political Science, Administration and International Affairs. Specialisation or pathway 1 covers all these fields, so that each student may or may not specialise in one of them at a later date. The course is therefore designed both for entry into the private sector and in relation to the guiding principles of the public sector.
This versatility structures the AES curriculum and is reflected in the presentation of the heads and teachers. All disciplines are represented. Students have specific contacts to discuss and explore issues relating to each of them.
The AES degree is divided into pathway 1 (Economics, Business Administration) and pathway 2 (Management) at L3 level, depending on the students' career plans.
The strong point of Track 1 is its focus on Economics, particularly the study of Business and Market Economics, Economic Growth, Development Economics and Economic Calculation Tools. There are a number of gateways into future Masters courses.
