The Commission Culture is organising a monthly literary event: the Rencontres Littéraires. This new edition will take place on Wednesday 28 April from 4pm to 6pm at the University Library. Come and listen to Alexandra Cretté present the literary review Oyapock. You must wear a mask.
O yapock, Revue littéraire is a project that will become a reality in June 2020 and is therefore less than a year old. We publish authors with links to the Amazon region, whether through their language, their personal history or the history of their people. Exchanges between the Caribbean, the Guyana Plateau, Amazonia and the whole of South America are a source of immense cultural and artistic wealth. We are proposing a publication space for those who write, photograph, paint, in a word, work there.
The Oyapock magazine was born of meetings between authors, an artist, photographers, poets, novelists and playwrights of diverse origins. It's a gamble on these encounters, but also on an idea: to create a space for artistic publication based on the Amazon region and its languages. It's not just a French-language magazine, but one that resonates with the place where we live, and includes publications in several languages, as well as translations.
Living in a polyphonic world means creating in an intercultural space, in constant communication with those around us. Language is a tool for communication and sharing, for creation and exchange. Far from linguistic unity, French Guiana is a place where languages have interpenetrated through history and migration.
As publications and discussions progress, the magazine becomes more complex, and plans to welcome new forms of publication: photographs mixed with poems, collective writing, performance videos, paintings and stories.
