On Thursday 22 April 2021, Mr Antoine Primerose, President of the University of Guyana, and Ms Thara GOVINDIN, President of MEDEF Guyane, had the pleasure of signing the partnership agreement linking the two establishments.
P hrough this partnership, the University aims to strengthen its links with the socio-economic world through a variety of initiatives - hosting students for work placements or sandwich courses in companies, involving professionals in university courses to give them a more professional dimension, and also supporting the PEPITE scheme, which provides help and support for entrepreneurship.
The main aim of this agreement is to develop students' entrepreneurial spirit. Through PEPITE, the Pôle Etudiants pour l'Innovation, le transfert et l'Entrepreneuriat (Student Pole for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship), the University is aiming to make entrepreneurship and innovation training more widespread at undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels, and in all of the University of Guyana's training courses. By increasing the number of information and communication initiatives, the University is seeking to raise students' awareness of entrepreneurship and its prospects, thereby encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit.
Focus on PEPITE
The aim of the PÉPITE, which brings together all the players in the local ecosystem, is not only to offer young people an entrepreneurial pathway through higher education, but also to improve recognition and support for business start-up projects undertaken by students and young graduates.
The PÉPITE aims to :
- Strengthen the entrepreneurial and innovation culture in higher education and encourage the emergence of companies with growth and employment potential;
- Promoting the entrepreneurial approach via national student-entrepreneur status ;
- Strengthen the link between higher and secondary education, an essential condition for success and for mobilising all talents;
- Encouraging women's entrepreneurship ;
Strengthen access to entrepreneurship for young people with few or no qualifications by promoting partnerships between PEPITEs and local missions.
