It's been nearly ten years since the Marketing Techniques department at the Kourou IUT took part in the Alticiades. The Kourou IUT made its comeback in the competition with the participation of eight first and second year students.
L he Alticiades are four days of competition showcasing the technical and sporting skills of BUT marketing technology students from all over France. The competition includes a series of multi-disciplinary events: commercial, cultural, sporting and fun.
Multi-disciplinary tests
Commercial tests include :
Setting up a regional gastronomic show. The aim of each participating département is to present a stand of processed and unprocessed agri-food products, representative of its own region or theme, and to promote, taste and sell them.
The negotiation test. Each department taking part in the Alticiades nominates a pair of students for the negotiation test. The negotiating pair prepares a case usually encountered by sales forces.
The sporting and cultural events include :
The test of the Unidentified Slippery Object. The aim of this event is to build an original UFO symbolising the team's region. All UFOs must slide under their own weight, carry one or two people, brake and stop, restart and arrive intact at the bottom of the descent. The evaluation criteria are: safety, precision and time, link with the region and aesthetics.
Ski and relay competitions. These events give young people a chance to showcase their team spirit on slippery terrain. The students show what they can do on the snow, with two activities: downhill skiing or snowboarding and the snow relay event.
Despite coming last in the skiing events, our team of students managed to secure 19th place overall. They showed their merit and stood out in the cultural events, presenting a fine assortment of Guyanese products and traditional costumes in a carnival atmosphere.
During their stay, our eight 1st and 2nd year TC students represented their region during all the events, bringing the warmth of the Amazon to the snowy Hautes-Alpes. Far from their comfort zone, they were accompanied by a team of teachers ready to encourage them.
