The Commission Culture is organising a monthly literary event: the Rencontres Littéraires. This new edition will take place on Wednesday 23 February 2022 from 2pm to 4pm at the University Library. Come and listen to Dominique Martin, who will be presenting the literary review Mitaraka (a review of visual arts, poetry and literature from the Guyana Plateau, the Greater Caribbean and South America). You must wear a mask.

The Mitaraka association was set up in 1988, bringing together visual artists, poets and writers. Over the years, musicians, academics, anthropologists and storytellers from the Guyana Plateau have taken part in the group's work. The first issue of the magazine appeared in 1990, with articles in several languages from Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and, of course, French Guiana.

Mitaraka, the name of this mysterious massif on the border between Brazil, Guyana and Surinam, is a highly geopoetic place, a reservoir of legends, rich in fauna and flora. Linguists, poets, musicians, ethnologists and visual artists have all embarked on an adventure where artistic expression is the only priority. A new world, in a way, open to the creativity of the Guyana Plateau, the Greater Caribbean and South America. Poetry is the common thread running through the magazine.

Texts are also available in Portuguese, Dutch and English. Mitaraka aims to be an international magazine whose influence extends beyond the borders of French Guyana. It is a magazine that brings together poetic texts, reflections and the presentation of artistic works. Three key words run through the pages: Freedom, Love, Poetry. This new issue of the arts and poetry magazine Mitaraka is an enchantment, in the full sense of the word, both a song and a call to the marvellous, lovingly blending the arts with creative writing.
