About you?

Tell us about yourself

Hello, my name is Odemica JULES, I'm 23 years old and I'm in charge of business creation at the BGE de Guyane, which is involved in the economic development of French Guiana. This organisation works to promote the professional integration and support of project holders and entrepreneurial initiatives.

Your business

Can you tell us about your job? What does it involve?

I've been in this job since October 2021. It's a job that aims to support project owners who want to develop their business. I help to structure the ideas and define the projects that the applicants put forward. I also help project leaders to find their feet by keeping an eye on the market and presenting them with all the tools that can be made available, both in organisational and financial terms. In addition to these tasks, I'm also responsible for running training courses and workshops on entrepreneurship.

What do you like about your job?

I appreciate the fact that I can help people to achieve their goals. It's something I particularly enjoy doing in my day-to-day life. I myself come from a family of entrepreneurs, so it's always a pleasure for me to contribute to the development of new ideas.

Your training courses

Tell us about your training. Which course did you follow?

I took a baccalauréat in Economics and Social Sciences, then went on to study for a DUT in Marketing Techniques at the IUT in Kourou, followed by a professional degree in Commerce and Distribution, and finally, I entered the Master's in Business Administration Management. The latter is the result of a partnership between the University of French Guiana, the IAE in La Rochelle and the University of Paris Sorbonne.

Why did you choose these courses?

I'd say that my family environment played a big part, because I grew up in a household of entrepreneurs, so I've always been in some way immersed in the world of entrepreneurship. I'd also like to mention the advantages that these courses offer: like the possibility of doing a sandwich course in the professions that interest you, of evolving in the professional world and, most importantly, of acquiring value on the job market.

What have you learnt from your training courses?

I think that the training courses I've taken have enabled me to develop various skills. Particularly in management, analysing a market, identifying business opportunities, building a company strategy and a better capacity for analysis, which is important in my job. Today, as part of my job, I'm very autonomous, because I have a versatile profile, which means that I can take part in other tasks with my colleagues, for example in communications, where I produce communications media, organise events and many other activities that help me to develop and find myself in my tasks.
