L’Association Théâtrale des Étudiants de Guyane «La jeunesse guyanaise en Action»

Since 1 November 2018, the young people of the Association Théâtrale des Étudiants de Guyane, known as ATEG, have been aiming to showcase Guianese culture through theatre. This idea came to them after obtaining the University Diploma in Regional Languages and Cultures - DU LCR - and a trip to Africa, made them aware of the importance of cultural identity, which is a rich heritage.

E n fact, this cultural identity manifests itself above all in local literature, hence the inspiration of these young people to become true ambassadors of Guyanese theatre.

In 2018, in parallel with the DU, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Modern Literature, during which they studied the great European playwrights diachronically, essential reference points for civic education and the acquisition of a common culture. Their theatrical works have been brought to schoolchildren by the choice of schools, and to the general public by live performance companies.

Through local theatre, ATEG students share the same ambition for Guyanese culture.

Today, ATEG has more than 20 members, including its directors, lecturers and actors, who are there every Wednesday from 12 noon to 2pm, in room 302 at the ESPE, to showcase their rehearsals.

For the last seven months, these young people have been training on the new play of the year " The Travellers "by the great Guyanese playwright Élie STEPHENSON.

The theatrical performance will be put on by students from the association at the Resto U, on Friday 03 May 2019 at 12 noon.
