In response to the increased material difficulties faced by a significant proportion of the student population as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic, the French government has created a special emergency grant for students in precarious situations as a result of the health crisis. From now on, you can apply for €200 in aid, subject to certain conditions and in addition to aid already in place.

This aid is available to all students in initial training, whether or not they are in receipt of a grant, regardless of nationality. It is available to students who have lost a paid job/internship and to overseas students who have stayed in mainland France.

How is it awarded?

Help for students who have lost a job or work placement

The Government has decided to provide exceptional assistance of €200 to support students in financial difficulty who have lost their student job or whose work placement has been cancelled or interrupted. Applications for assistance should be submitted electronically via the digital portal www.etudiant.gouv.fr section " messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr ".

The conditions for applying for this aid depend on your situation:

  • You are enrolled in an initial non-apprenticeship course at a French higher education establishment
  • You must have been in paid employment since at least 1 January 2020 for an average of 8 hours a week, or have completed a paid work placement of 2 months or more that began or is due to begin no later than 1 June 2020 and is a compulsory part of your course.
  • You must justify that your student job or work placement was interrupted or could not be maintained because of the containment measures.
  • You must prove that your loss of income could not be covered by another scheme already put in place by the Government (in particular measures linked to partial activity).

If you were running your business as an auto-entrepreneur, you can apply for assistance on the tax.
