AIBSI: An ambitious university project for research and innovation in French Guiana
The University is committed to rationalising and federating its research strengths in order to amplify its impact on the region by concentrating its efforts around five main themes: Global Health, Biodiversity, Dynamics of Amazonian Societies, Heritage and Innovative Technologies. The AIBSI "Amazon Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainable Innovation" project supports this site policy and aims to :
- Creating a site signature "Biodiversity and Sustainable Innovation in the Amazon", visible at local, national and international level;
- Responding to major societal challenges requiring a multi- or trans-disciplinary approach through research and training;
- Training the skills of today and tomorrow on biodiversity and how it can be used to make innovations sustainable;
- Building a platform for scientific excellence in the northern Amazon basin, putting French Guiana at the crossroads of excellence;
- Developing science with and for society by strengthening the research-application-society continuum and promoting innovation in all its forms and technology transfer.
The project is based on fundamental research into the dynamics of biodiversity, in direct contact with the region, and takes into account four academic and societal priorities: preserving biodiversity, sustainable food, global health and eco-construction.
