The "24 Hours of Health Law" moot competition was held in Lille on 3 and 4 May. Organised by the University of Montpellier's Health Law School, headed by Professor François Vialla, this 22nd edition of the competition was hosted by the Catholic University of Lille and Professor Lina Williate.
1 4 teams of 4 Masters students from French-speaking universities competed in the case of Mrs Tube who, following a road accident, was given several blood transfusions even though she had expressed her objection to such an act. For 24 hours, the students prepared a written statement, some representing the public prosecutor and having to convince the prosecution that the doctor was guilty of deliberate violence, the others having to defend the doctor. They then had the opportunity to present their arguments before a jury made up of lawyers, judges and academics, at the end of which 4 prizes were awarded: for the best written submission, for the best litigant, for the best closing argument and for the best team.
For the first time, and thanks to the financial support of the Student Life Office and the DFR SJE, the University of Guyana was represented at the competition by 4 students from the Master 1 "Justice, trials and procedures" course: Mr Gabriel Amory, Ms Faïdati Mohamed, Mr Ryan Rubichon and Ms Maloris Tessonneau, accompanied by Mr Jean-Philippe Vauthier, Senior Lecturer in Private Law and Criminal Sciences. This first participation was crowned with success, as the University of Guyana distinguished itself by winning the prize for best litigator, which rewards the oratorical talents of Ms Faïdati Mohamed, but also pays tribute to the work accomplished by the whole team.
Well done to them and see you next year... in Cayenne!
