In early November 2023, a delegation from the University of Guyana, made up of researchers and administrative members of the Department of Research and Development of Doctoral Studies (DIRVED), visited the research and development laboratory of the Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering in Lisbon, Portugal. The mission, which took place from 7 to 8 November, was an opportunity to strengthen the links between the two institutions and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
C his delegation comprised : Ms Aïra TRIBORD-REZAIRE (Director of the DIRVED), Mr Antoine PRIMEROSE (Senior Lecturer in Electronics, Director of AIBSI) and Ms Jessica BECHET (Senior Lecturer in Computer Science).
The event was part of the Horizon Europe programme, and also brought together representatives from the Spanish CIEMAT and Portuguese LARSyS laboratories, underlining the importance of international cooperation in the field of research.
Discussions and working meetings covered a wide range of topics, highlighting areas of common interest such as energy, informatics and bioinformatics. Researchers from the two institutions exchanged ideas and explored opportunities for collaboration, including the supervision of doctoral students and participation in ERDF- and AIBSI-funded research projects.
In addition to its research activities, INESC-ID has a department specialising in targeting and setting up projects in response to European calls for projects. The participation of the head of this department in the discussions enabled the delegation to benefit from her expertise and to explore new avenues of funding for joint projects.
From an administrative point of view, this meeting brought benefits on two levels. Firstly, feedback was shared on an ongoing project funded by the Twinning scheme, addressing complex issues relating to the submission and administrative management of the project. In addition, the workings of the equivalent department at the DIRVED were presented, highlighting their strategy for seeking funding opportunities.
More generally, the delegation had the opportunity to find out how the department equivalent to the DIRVED within INESC-ID operates, highlighting their effective strategy in the search for funding opportunities. This administrative presentation provided new perspectives for the development of the DIRVED at the University of Guyana.
