From 24 November to 2 December, a delegation from the University undertook a mission to Sao Paulo, Brazil, marked by the signing of three fundamental framework agreements with key partners. This initiative aims to strengthen scientific cooperation and research, with a particular focus on the Amazon.
L he university delegation, comprising Laurent Linguet, President of the Université de Guyane, Ghislaine Prévot, Vice-President for Research, Antoine Primerose, Director of AIBSI and Giulia Manera, International Partnerships Delegate, has signed three framework agreements with leading partners.
The University of Sao Paulo (USP), the largest university in Latin America and a leading figure in terms of scientific influence, was the first partner to sign an agreement. USP stands out for its significant contribution to Amazon research at national level, producing an impressive number of studies on this crucial region.
The State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), a dynamic and internationally active institution, was also the subject of an agreement. Discussions focused on a sustainable campus project currently under development, reflecting a shared commitment to innovative initiatives.
The third partner was the Sao Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP), the largest research funding organisation in the country. Discussions with the President of the University of Guyana, Laurent LINGUET, and the Director of FAPESP, Marco Antonio ZAGO, focused on the potential creation of a joint call for projects focusing on Amazonia, covering areas such as biodiversity, health, sustainable development and innovation.
The delegation also met with the Paulista State University (UNESP) with a view to signing a framework agreement in the future. A working meeting with the directors of the laboratories present in French Guiana is scheduled for January, underlining the importance of extensive scientific collaboration.
In addition to the university partnerships, the delegation visited the Institut Pasteur in Sao Paulo, meeting with its director Paula Minoprio. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore opportunities for collaboration in the field of medical and health research.
A dinner attended by the French Ambassador to Brazil and the French Consul General in Sao Paulo highlighted the crucial role played by French Guiana in transnational projects in the Amazon, highlighting the region's significant contribution to research into health, sustainable development and biodiversity.
