Jean-Tously, lauréat du prix Mémoires et Thèses Anacofi 2023

Jean-Tously Fortune Montina was awarded the Grand Prix Mémoires et Thèses Anacofi 2023 at a prestigious ceremony at the Cercle de l'Union Interalliée in Paris on 14 December 2023.

C his event, organised by the Association Nationale des Conseillers Financiers (ANACOFI), the largest professional association of brokerage and advisory firms in banking, finance and insurance, rewards each year outstanding dissertations and theses in the fields of Business, Wealth Management, Real Estate and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).

Jean-Tously conducted her research at the MINEA laboratory at the University of Guyana, under the expert guidance of Professors Florence Faberon and Frédéric Bondil. Fruitful collaborations also took place at McGill University and Oxford University, enriching the international scope of his thesis.

Its research, focusing on the management of Sociétés Civiles de Placement Immobilier (SCPIs) in the face of environmental challenges, takes on particular importance at a time when the European Union has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Buildings, which are responsible for 40 % of the EU's energy consumption and 36 % of its CO2 emissions, are at the heart of climate concerns.

Jean-Tously's thesis identifies the regulatory and financial gaps hindering environmental action by SCPIs and proposes theoretical and practical solutions to overcome these difficulties. At a time when the European Commission is stressing the need to speed up emissions reductions, SCPIs, as collective investment vehicles, can play a crucial role in the sustainable management of their buildings.

Innovating for a sustainable future

Alongside his academic work, Jean-Tously is the Founder and Managing Director of DEXSO, a Young University Enterprise (JEU) housed at Guyane Développement Innovation. DEXSO, which specialises in wealth management, banking and insurance brokerage, and property transactions, stands out for its commitment to academic research. In partnership with the University of Guyana, DEXSO is working to offer innovative solutions in its areas of activity.

The company is fully aware of the environmental issues at stake, and invests fully in research and innovation to help public and private players anticipate the risks associated with their activities, thereby contributing to the ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Jean-Tously and DEXSO embody a vision that combines academic excellence, social commitment and environmental responsibility.
