In short, the University of Guyana brought together students and employers at Job Dating UG 2025, facilitating exchanges and career opportunities for young people in the region.
On 24 June 2025, the terrace of the University Restaurant on the Troubiran campus played host to another edition of Job Dating UG, a key event in supporting students' professional integration. Organised by the DOSIP and the DFPU, this event enabled more than 290 students to meet directly with around thirty local companies. A wide range of sectors were represented, from major groups to SMEs, including temporary employment agencies operating in French Guiana. The recruiters presented a wide range of offers, including internships, work-study programmes, first jobs, student jobs and civic service missions, responding to the diversity of the profiles present.
The atmosphere of the event was particularly appreciated by the participants and the companies, encouraging constructive and authentic exchanges. The students were able to demonstrate their preparation, while the employers emphasised the quality of the applications they received. The many lively discussions highlighted the young people's motivation to enter the local job market. The morning was rounded off by a prize draw, with some participants winning tickets for the SMILE Festival, adding a festive touch to this professional day.
The success of this year's event confirms the relevance of this job dating format, which is based on proximity, simplicity and efficiency. In this way, the University of Guyana is demonstrating its concrete commitment to helping students develop their careers. By making this scheme permanent, it intends to strengthen and broaden this dynamic, in order to increase the number of bridges between young graduates and employers in the region. This type of initiative provides real leverage for the professional future of Guyanese students, while meeting the recruitment needs of local businesses. The gradual expansion of Job Dating to other university sites will amplify this positive impact throughout the region.
Helping students find their way into the world of work, through initiatives such as this Job Dating, is fully in line with the University of Guyana's mission: to offer every student concrete opportunities and easier access to the local job market. This approach, which has been hailed by students and professionals alike, embodies the university's desire to anchor itself at the heart of regional economic dynamics.
