The University of French Guiana has announced a new logistics training programme, designed in collaboration with Balguerie Outre-Mer Guyane and ISTELI. This initiative responds to the rapid growth of the local logistics sector and aims to enhance the region's appeal. Scheduled to begin in September 2026, it will train professionals who are immediately ready to enter the workforce. This article presents the ambitions, partners and challenges of this structuring project for French Guiana.

A structuring project born out of a solid partnership

The launch of this logistics training programme marks an important milestone for the University of French Guiana. President Laurent LINGUET and René HOAREAU, Director of Balguerie Outre-Mer Guyane, signed a letter of commitment formalising their collaboration.

On this occasion, President LINGUET stated:
«This unprecedented partnership is part of the University's strategy. This project marks an important step for the overall development of the region, and the training programme we are going to implement aims to meet the expectations of stakeholders in this sector who are counting on Guyanese youth, trained by competent professionals and specifically introduced to local realities and challenges.»

To guarantee a high level of educational expertise, the UG has also partnered with ISTELI, a leading institution in the fields of transport and international logistics. This collaboration enhances the quality and relevance of the future programme.

A certification course developed in collaboration with professionals

Balguerie Outre-Mer Guyane contributes its operational expertise, professional knowledge and understanding of the skills required in the field. The University of French Guiana mobilises its teaching teams and its regional roots. With the support of ISTELI, these partners are working together to develop a certification programme geared towards employment.

On this subject, René HOAREAU emphasises:
«This is the first certified training programme in international logistics in the Antilles–Guyana region offered by the University of Guyana, positioning Guyana as a future hub for logistics training in the Caribbean and Amazon regions.»

The shared objective is to train professionals who are immediately operational and capable of joining local and regional companies as soon as they complete their studies.

Two formats to suit all audiences

Scheduled to open in September 2026, this programme will enrich the University's CFA catalogue. Two courses will be offered: a work-study programme combining theoretical teaching and immersion in a company, and a continuing education course for employees undergoing retraining or skills development.

Content rooted in Guyanese economic realities

The programme, developed in collaboration with ISTELI, is tailored to the specific characteristics of the local economy. It will cover port and airport logistics, sea and air freight, flow management, storage, customs, multimodal transport and logistics issues related to the Amazon region. This adaptation ensures that the training is consistent with the real needs of the region while complying with national standards for the sector.

A response to the University's strategic objectives

This project is part of axis 2 of the University of French Guiana's strategy and meets the expectations of the ADUG Project, with the aim of strengthening links with socio-economic actors and developing training courses with high employability.

A pool of skills to support local growth

Thanks to this training, French Guiana will be able to count on new local skills tailored to the sector's needs. This approach promotes the territory's logistical autonomy, supports business growth and opens up new opportunities for young people and workers.

With this new logistics programme scheduled to begin in September 2026, the University of French Guiana is strengthening its role as a driver of regional development. Drawing on its excellent partners, it offers a comprehensive, future-oriented professional training programme. Students will thus be able to enter a rapidly expanding sector with a high demand for skilled workers.
