Journée scientifique Université de Guyane sur la recherche et l’innovation durable en Amazonie

The University of French Guiana Science Day will bring together researchers and the general public on 10 February in Cayenne to present practical solutions in the fields of bioeconomy, health, biodiversity and ecological transition, based on research carried out in the Amazon region.

A scientific event at the heart of Guyanese issues

The Université de Guyane Science Day will be held on Tuesday 10 February, from 8am to 5pm, in the M amphitheatre of the Research building, on the Troubiran campus. The University of French Guiana is organising this event to present research solutions to the major challenges facing the region.

Against this backdrop, researchers and doctoral students from the University of Guyana, as well as those from national research bodies, will be talking directly to the public. They will be sharing the scientific advances they have made since 2023 and explaining their practical impact on French Guiana.

An event supported by the Amazon Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainable Innovation

This scientific day is part of the Amazon Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainable Innovation. This structuring programme aims to strengthen research, innovation and the development of resources in the Amazon region.

In this way, the AIBSI is supporting work that meets the environmental, economic and social challenges facing French Guiana. For more information, a full presentation of the project is available at the following address: https://www.univ-guyane.fr/universite/notre-vision/nos-grands-projets/aibsi/.

Key themes for the ecological and social transition

Throughout the day, discussions will focus on key issues for the region. Presentations will focus on sustainable food, tropical health, the bioeconomy and the ecological transition.

In addition, the researchers will address the dynamics of Amazonian biodiversity, eco-construction and societal issues. Each presentation will highlight concrete scientific results and their local application.

Concrete, innovative research projects

The Université de Guyane Science Day will present fourteen research projects. These include the development of cocoa and cupuaçu, the development of sustainable agricultural practices and forest regeneration.

In addition, several projects involve bioclimatic buildings, rapid diagnostic tests for tropical diseases and innovative biosensors for monitoring river water quality. These projects are a direct response to the region's environmental and health challenges.

Collaborative research serving local development

The projects presented are carried out in collaboration with Guianese companies, universities on the Guyana Plateau and institutions in mainland France. These partnerships encourage the sharing of skills and knowledge.

In practical terms, this approach combines fundamental research with the development of Guiana's resources. It aims to produce innovative solutions that support the local economy while respecting the principles of environmental sustainability.

A day open to all, both face-to-face and remotely

Free of charge and open to all, the Université de Guyane Science Day is aimed at associations, individuals, companies, research bodies, public institutions and political decision-makers. It provides an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how research works and how it is carried out.

Finally, participants can attend the event face-to-face or remotely. Registration is recommended and can be done using the following form:
