From 1 April, the University of French Guiana is launching a citizen survey on air quality in French Guiana, in partnership with the ARS and Atmo Guyane, to gain a better understanding of local perceptions and improve environmental health policies.

Air quality in French Guyana is a major public health issue. Despite its unspoilt natural environment, the region is exposed to a number of phenomena that affect the air we breathe on a daily basis. These include sand mists from the Sahara, slash-and-burn practices and certain local human activities.

Faced with these realities, the University of Guyana is actively involved. From 1 April, it will be taking part in a major public survey entitled «What do I know about air quality? The aim of this initiative is to gain a better understanding of the perceptions of campus residents and users.

The Regional Health and Environment Plan for French Guiana is an essential roadmap. It coordinates the actions of the State, local authorities and local players to limit the impact of the environment on health.
