Valérie Verdier, President and CEO of the IRD, and Antoine Primerose, President of the University of Guyana (UG), signed the renewal of the framework agreement between the two institutions on Monday 31 January 2022, on the Troubiran Campus of the University of Guyana.
L his 5-year agreement follows on from the previous one, which expired at the end of 2019, and sets out a framework for cooperation in research, training, expertise and scientific information activities carried out in partnership. Through this agreement, the two parties reaffirm their shared strategic objectives, in response to global, environmental, economic, social and cultural changes.
The Institut de Recherche pour le Développement and the Université de Guyane are already partners of the Espace-Dev Joint Research Unit and carry out research and training activities in French Guiana in the fields of space and sustainable development. They are both partners in numerous infrastructures and facilities in French Guiana, including the image analysis laboratory associated with the SEAS receiving station and the Guiana Herbarium (botanical collection and database).
With this framework agreement, the IRD and the UG are reaffirming the proximity of their stakes in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as their shared priorities for action, particularly with regard to young people.
