Signing of an agreement between the University of French Guiana and the municipality of Cayenne

On Friday 3 May 2024 at 10.00am, an important milestone in the collaboration between the City of Cayenne and the University of Guyana was reached with the signing of a new framework partnership agreement. 

C his event took place in the Salle des Conseils of the Bât. L building at the University of Guyana, in the presence of Laurent LINGUET, President of the University of Guyana, and Sandra TROCHIMARA, Mayor of Cayenne.

This agreement, which marks the renewal of the collaboration between the two institutions, aims to establish cross-disciplinary cooperation, highlighting the respective missions of the University and the Commune for the benefit of citizens, users and third parties. It is perfectly aligned with the objectives of higher education, while taking into account the responsibilities of the Commune of Cayenne.

One of the main thrusts of this collaboration is the popularisation of research, which will bring the scientific advances made at the university closer to the general public. The cultural dimension is also highlighted, with joint projects aimed at enriching the cultural offering for the people of Cayenne. In addition, the agreement provides for cooperation initiatives with neighbouring states and the Caribbean, strengthening regional integration and cross-border exchanges.

The collaboration will also extend to the areas of internships and event-based jobs, offering students from the University of Guyana concrete opportunities for practical training and professional integration. Continuing education will also be a cornerstone of the partnership, enabling local professionals to benefit from the skills development programmes offered by the university.

The pooling of library resources and shared access to infrastructure will enable optimum use to be made of existing resources, giving students and researchers greater access to the information and equipment they need to carry out their work. Safety and territorial coherence will also be priorities, guaranteeing an environment conducive to learning and community development.

The signing of this agreement testifies to the desire of both parties to build a solid, long-term partnership that will benefit all users and third parties.
