From 24 to 28 November 2025, students from the University of French Guiana will be taking part in the Workshop on the border between French Guiana and Brazil. This event will showcase their commitment and the University's international outlook.
Master's in Civilisations, Cultures and Societies (Societies and Interculturality programme) is organising a unique workshop on the border. It is taking place in eastern French Guiana and in Oiapoque, Brazil. This project is run by the Graduate School of Amazonia. It encourages cooperation between the University of Guyana and the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP). It also enables students to discover the cultural and natural wealth of Amazonia at first hand.
Over the course of a week, students attend scientific presentations, meet researchers, visit sites and take part in exchanges between universities. This is their first international scientific communication event. The event also strengthens links between students, doctoral students and teachers in the two countries. It is also part of the France-Brazil Year, which gives it an important symbolic significance.
The programme begins with an immersion in sustainable food and food heritage. Participants visit the cocoa plantations in Régina and then meet the artisans at the Cassiporé chocolate factory in Oiapoque. They then attend a master class led by Esther Katz (PALOC-IRD). They also learned about the history of the Oyapock from a number of researchers. Finally, they take part in the Observatoire Hommes-Milieux seminar and the 4ᵉ DYAGA seminar.
Committed students flying the colours of the University of Guyana
The University of Guyana is delighted to see its students so involved. They are curious, willing and proud to represent their region. Thanks to this project, they are strengthening their sense of belonging and contributing, in their own way, to the influence of the University and French Guyana.
