International French-language writing competition
L' he University of Guyana is organising an international writing competition in collaboration with its partners in Africa and Haiti. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness among students of the links between French Guiana, Haiti and Africa.
Every year in March, events are organised throughout the French-speaking world by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), highlighting the values shared by countries that have the French language in common: solidarity, democracy, cultural diversity, human rights, education rights, gender equality...
As part of this initiative, the University of Guyana is organising an international writing competition, in collaboration with its partners in Africa (Université C. Anta Diop University in Dakar, Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Abomey Calavi University in Benin) and Haiti (State University of Haiti, Ecole Normale d'Haïti, Public Universities in the Regions), as well as the associations of teachers of French in these countries.
This activity focuses on students enrolled at schools in the countries mentioned. It is, however, open to other establishments. These are :
- To give young people in these countries an opportunity to share the French language;
- To make them aware of the links between French Guiana, Haiti and Africa.
The theme of the competition is: "Three territories: a shared history and values". Each candidate will produce a fictional text, between 10 and 20 pages long, in the form of a short story, tale or legend whose character(s), themes or actions will be set in Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. The text must draw on one or more of the shared values of the French-speaking world.
Text layout: Times font, size 12, single-spaced, paginated, no illustrations. PDF format.
Mention the title of the short story, tale or legend, as well as the author's name, place of residence and country on the first page.
