Elections for certain components of the University of Guyana will be held on 2 and 3 June 2026 at the Troubiran campus in Cayenne. Students and staff are invited to vote, get involved or apply to influence university life and future decisions.

Election dates and venues

These elections are held over two separate days, depending on the component concerned.

Tuesday 2 June 2026 - 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
DFR SJE - ST - LSH
Venue: Cayenne, Troubiran campus - terrace of the university restaurant

Wednesday 3 June 2026 - 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
UFR SMS - Doctoral school
Venue: Cayenne, Troubiran campus - terrace of the university restaurant

To vote, each elector must present valid proof of identity, such as a student card or official document.

Why vote?

Voting allows you to elect representatives who take part in important university decisions. They are involved in training, student life and future projects. Your participation helps to improve teaching, living conditions on campus and infrastructure. It also helps to support innovative projects.

Who can vote?

All students and staff registered on the electoral lists are eligible to vote. These lists are displayed at the university. It is essential to check your registration before 15 May 2026 and bring proof of identity with you to the ballot boxes.

Voting by proxy: steps to follow

If you are unable to attend, you can vote by proxy. First request a form from the dedicated addresses, enclosing proof of identity. Then complete the numbered document you receive. The proxy must be registered on the same electoral roll as you.

Finally, hand in or send the completed form to the contacts indicated. The deadline is 12 noon on the day before polling day. The proxy must show proof of identity on the day.

  • College A - Representatives of PUs, MCFs and equivalent for the Law stream: 5 seats
  • College D - Representatives of administrative, technical and service staff: 2 seats
  • College E - Users :

  • Economic sector: 1 full member and 1 alternate member

DFR LSH

  • College D - All subject area: part-time lecturers (36 HETD): 1 full member and 1 alternate member
  • College D - SHS field: part-time lecturers (36 HETD): 1 full member and 1 alternate member
  • College F - ALL students: 1 full member and 1 alternate member
  • SHS students: 1 full member and 1 alternate member

DFR ST

  • College A - Research professors (PU, MCF and equivalent): 19 seats
  • College B - PRAG, PRCE, contract staff, PAST, ATER, CDI, CDD, project managers: 8 seats
  • College D - Administrative, technical and service staff: 3 seats
  • College E - Maths-Info students: 1 full member and 1 alternate member
  • SVT students: 1 member and 1 alternate

Doctoral school
College of doctoral students: 3 permanent seats and 3 substitutes

UFR SMS - College B
This concerns :

  1. Research professors or equivalent, associate or visiting professors (MCF, MCU-PH)
  2. Part-time lecturers
  3. Other non-tenured teachers
  4. Researchers from public scientific and technological establishments or establishments recognised as being of public interest
  5. Scientific library staff
  6. Contract staff recruited in accordance with article L954-3 (heads of clinics, university hospital assistants)
    1 full member seat to be filled

How do you vote?

On polling day, go to the polling station. Take your ballot paper and place it in the ballot box. This simple gesture allows you to participate in the democratic life of the university.
