Objectives

  • To provide future teachers with a solid grounding in history and geography;
  • Help students prepare for the CAPES exams, which take place in the second year (eligibility in March/April, admission in June);
  • Master the practice of teaching at secondary level, and the knowledge and methods specific to the discipline of history and geography.
  • One option Introduction to research (History, international relations, territories in the Amazon) is attached to this Master's degree. For the students who choose it, in addition to the courses that they will share with those of the professional branch, this module of 60 hours per year (M1 and M2), will offer them a solid knowledge of the local and regional history and geography of Amazonian territories as well as an opening to the world. They will also have the opportunity to pursue their studies in a doctorate programme once they have obtained their MASTER's degree.

The course is structured around four teaching units:

  • UE 1 ensures the acquisition of a common professional culture
  • UE 2 stresses the need to integrate teachers' disciplinary knowledge ("knowledge to be taught").
  • UE 3: aims to link the practical knowledge acquired during the work placements with the theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the on-site training, particularly for the introduction to research. Each student also completes a professional memoir Master's degree, which must have disciplinary and research content in line with the teaching objective and professional practices. For students who have chosen the option (History, international relations and territories in Amazonia), they will have to write a research dissertation.
  • UE 4 offers the opportunity to acquire skills in modern languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese) and digital technology.
