Ability to communicate in both English and French to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, and to both schoolchildren and adults (colleagues, parents), clearly and unambiguously and in a way appropriate to the audience concerned.

Scientific and technical skills

Research skills: familiarisation with the research methods specific to the different fields (arts and literature, linguistics, civilisations), appropriation of bibliographical research and/or field survey methods, mastery of appropriate documentary tools (bibliographies, search engines, databases, drawing up questionnaires, archives, etc.), scientific exploitation of sources, respecting the writing and referencing standards in force in the research fields.

Subject-specific skills

  • Language skills: excellent command of English, fluency in French, enabling both theoretical and practical specialisation in translation and interpreting.
  • Teaching skills: teaching the English language, applying didactic and pedagogical knowledge (theoretical and practical) in the context of teaching English; establishing teaching progression and designing teaching sequences to develop communicative language skills and cultural competence in English; knowing how to construct and produce meaning orally and in writing, etc.

Training required

Master 1 Admission requirements: Hold a 3-year higher education diploma or equivalent. This course is open to students from the following disciplines: LLCE English or LEA English/Portuguese or by validation of personal and professional experience (VAPP).

Master 2 : Access to the second year is automatic for any student who has successfully completed the first year of the MEEF 2nd year English course.

Evaluation

Assessment takes the form of continuous assessment and is based on the professional skills set out in the new texts (Référentiel de compétences professionnelles des métiers du professorat et de l'éducation) .

 

Internship

Students whose applications are selected for the Master 1 programme may take part in a sandwich course, in which case they spend two half-days a week on placement in the classes of a tutor in a collège or lycée. They gradually move from observation to supervised practice.

In the ordinary curriculum, M1 and M2 students undertake a two-week placement in a school each semester with a tutor. The first placement in M1 is based primarily on observation; the other placements are accompanied practice placements.
