Interruption of educational platform 4 December at 10pm until 5 December at 8am for updating.

Component : Kourou IUT
Domain: Technology.
Mention Civil Engineering and Sustainable Construction
Course : Design Office
Nature : Initial training leading to a degree and work-linked training from 2th  year.
Output level : BAC + 3 (180 ECTS).
Location: Kourou (Campus Bois Chaudat)

Objectives

The University Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering - Sustainable Construction (BUT GCCD) Design Office course covers all sectors of activity related to building and public works. Its aim is to train senior technicians and middle managers with strong technological skills, who are also familiar with the non-technological aspects of the profession, such as project management.

They are intended to be involved in project management (planning work), project management (design offices) or construction (construction companies).

At the end of the course, graduates will have acquired a body of operational knowledge for all the problems involved in a works programme, from the design of structures to their completion on site. They will also have the knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenges of sustainable construction.

Target skills

The courses that structure the training and the expectations for obtaining the University Bachelor of Technology are formulated in terms of skills. The 5 skill blocks will be covered with varying degrees of depth depending on the pathway chosen by the student. For the Design Office (BEC) pathway, the levels attained by the graduate are shown in italics (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced).

  • Develop technical solutions for all or part of a building project (Advanced level)
  • Develop technical solutions for all or part of a public works project (Advanced level)
  • Dimension technical structures and equipment in the building and civil engineering sector (Advanced level)
  • Organising a building site (Intermediate level)
  • Technical management of a project throughout its life (Intermediate level)

  1. Building and civil engineering technology: drawing, CAD, technology, topography, etc.
  2. Management and Methods: site organisation, work preparation, site management, etc.
  3. Civil engineering and geotechnical materials: granular materials, cementitious materials, wood, earth, etc.
  4. Structure and stability: structural design, reinforced concrete, steel structures, timber construction, etc.
  5. Applied physics - Energy comfort: ventilation, hydraulics, networks, heating, air conditioning, acoustics, sustainable construction, energy performance, etc.
  6. Fundamental courses: applied mathematics, computing, expression and communication, English, etc.
  7. Professionalisation: work placements, internships, portfolio, etc.
  • A large part of the teaching will take the form of practical work and tutorials, enabling students to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during the lectures.
  • The skills taught are then put into practice through a wide-ranging technical project lasting more than 600 hours.
  • Three 8- to 12-week placements over the first 4 semesters and 12 to 16 weeks in the final year for initial training students.
