Observatoire de la vie étudiante, enquêtes et statistiques

Introduction to the Observatory

The Student Life Observatory, Surveys and Statistics (OVEES) helps to build an understanding of the student population and contributes to the university’s strategic management within the Strategic Management and Quality Directorate.

It produces data, information and quantitative and qualitative analyses on student life, student success, graduates’ entry into the labour market, and teaching and training programmes.

In collaboration with the heads of departments and the programme or course coordinators, he carries out surveys on these topics.

It also produces monitoring reports, dashboards and management support tools relating to training, human resources and finance.

Scope and objectives of the OVEES

The OVEES’ activities aim to:

  • to help improve the university’s strategic management and appeal; ;
  • to contribute to students’ success;
  • to help secondary school pupils choose their next steps and support university students in changing their course of study.

In particular, these activities consist of:

  • to systematise the production of data by the university;
  • to ensure that the University’s data is up to date, consistent and accessible;
  • to produce dashboards relating to training, finance, human resources, research, etc., and make them available to the university’s governing bodies, departments and constituent units;
  • to carry out surveys and studies on student life, graduates’ entry into the labour market, etc.

The OVEES’s remit

The OVEES is responsible for producing data and information on student life and career progression, as well as on teaching and training programmes. As such, the OVEES’s remit is to:

  • To analyse the student population at UG: to understand their choice of degree programmes and academic pathways, their motivations and expectations; to analyse the factors contributing to their success (exam attendance rates, pass rates, etc.); and to gain an insight into their living conditions.
  • To monitor how UG graduates enter the world of work: to find out what becomes of them after completing their studies in terms of entering the labour market, seeking employment and continuing their studies; to examine their integration into the labour market in the years following graduation; to identify the professional fields into which UG graduates enter; and to characterise their employment in terms of sectors of activity, occupations, roles and types of contract…
  • To evaluate the University of Grenoble’s courses and teaching: to gauge student satisfaction with the organisation of the courses and the teaching content; to assess students’ awareness of and use of the services and resources made available to them; and to understand their academic working methods.
  • To produce decision-making tools: to develop indicators that the University’s governing bodies and constituent parts can use to inform their decision-making regarding the organisation of teaching, the development of study programmes and the improvement of student life.
