Objectives

This professional degree in "Protection and enhancement of historical and cultural heritage" is supported by the Humanities/History streams. Its aim is to train professionals with 3 years' higher education who will be directly operational and who will have a good general knowledge of history and heritage, as well as technical knowledge that will enable them to adapt quickly to the various heritage professions. These skills will be needed to meet the challenges of protecting and enhancing the heritage of the Guyana Plateau.

Target skills

The LP Patrimoine includes courses in the history, anthropology and literature of the Guyana Plateau. It is also based on technical teaching (law, archaeology, museology, tourism) and knowledge of the professional world of culture and heritage. It offers work experience in the form of a tutored heritage development project and a year-long apprenticeship in a company (sandwich course) or a 16-week work placement (initial course). This degree trains students in the historical and cultural heritage of the Guyana Plateau, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the past and present of Guyanese societies, and to prepare for careers in heritage promotion, conservation and enhancement.

Cross-disciplinary skills

  • Master the technological and management tools specific to the heritage sector
  • Understanding the challenges of heritage as a factor in socio-cultural development
  • Organising and leading a multicultural team and taking charge of a local/regional heritage enhancement and/or protection project

Scientific and technical skills

  • Acquire a sound knowledge of the management of heritage organisations
  • In-depth knowledge of the history and different cultures of the Guiana Shield
  • A satisfactory and operational command of a modern foreign language (English)

Admission

Recruitment level : Bac +2

Accessible in : work-linked training (as a priority) or initial training.

Training required : bac + 2 (L2 in languages/human sciences, BTS or DUT in tourism, the environment, social and cultural action or heritage)

Admission requirements : The LP Patrimoine is aimed at motivated students with a background in history, art history and literature.

Registration Administrative and pedagogical support from the university unit of the Languages and Humanities Department.

  • UEP 6.2 - PROFESSIONAL REPORT (20 ECTS)

Work-linked training

One-year apprenticeship/professional training contract or compulsory 16-week work placement in a company, association, local authority, etc. This apprenticeship/work placement is offered to students in consultation with professionals. Each student is supervised by an apprenticeship/internship supervisor from the company and is monitored by a teaching supervisor. Both the apprenticeship/internship and the tutored project lead to the writing of a dissertation/report and an oral presentation before a jury.
