Objectives

This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of French Guiana by training trilingual professionals. This degree is inclusive and aims to train trilingual professionals capable of working in the import/export departments of companies. Focusing on the world of commerce and business, the Applied Foreign Languages (LEA) degree aims to develop students' multilingual skills, preparing them to work in international business contexts. Graduates of this programme acquire the knowledge needed to enter Masters programmes focusing on business and international relations, or any other Masters programme such as 'Societies and Interculturalities', offered by the DFR-LSH.

This degree meets the needs of public services and local authorities and offers real opportunities for professional integration in Guiana, South America and the Caribbean. It will also train operators capable of setting up innovative cultural projects and supporting elected representatives and local decision-makers in their policy of forging closer links with the countries of South America and the Caribbean.

Admission

Recruitment level :
The course is open to anyone with a general Baccalauréat or DAEU. Holders of a vocational Bac may be admitted under certain conditions, after examination of their application.

To have studied English and Spanish as foreign languages at secondary school level.

Admission requirements :
The LEA English-Spanish degree is preferably aimed at students with a general baccalaureate who have specialised in modern foreign languages or have a solid grounding in English and Spanish.

Programme

As part of the Applied Foreign Languages degree, which focuses on Cooperation and Cultural and Commercial Relations in the Americas, the course begins with the acquisition of skills in written and oral expression and communication in French and the foreign languages studied. Students must also understand the civilisation, particularly the socio-economic and legal aspects, of the countries concerned and, from the second year onwards, develop a commercial, legal and economic culture with an international outlook. Over the course of the six semesters, the programme will include pre-professional activities and a work placement in a company abroad, with a view to enriching and supplementing the skills acquired.

Semester 1
Students will take courses in English grammar and French grammar (Projet Voltaire). In the field of Spanish, students will be taught grammar, phonetics and translation. They will also be taught a third foreign language: Portuguese.

Semester 2
Introduction of vocational modules: first approach to law and economics; introduction of a module devoted to developing a personal career plan.

Semester 3
Introduction to the world of business, management and accounting; further development of personal career plans. From this semester onwards, students will have the opportunity to take part in the exchange programme (Erasmus) set up by the university.

Semester 4
Reinforcement of technical modules and vocational training courses with a 4-week local or national work placement in a company.

Semester 5
Specialisation in commerce.

 Semester 6
During this semester, the international work placement is organised and validated. An internship report is written and presented to a panel of judges.

At the end of this degree, students should have a good command of English and Spanish, enabling them to carry out all the professional tasks expected of them. They will also need to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the English, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world in order to adapt their socio-professional activities to a multicultural context.

International trade The LEA degree trains professionals to work in companies' export departments, customs, chambers of commerce, international organisations, European institutions and import/export positions. Graduates can work as sales assistants, international development officers, international negotiators, etc.

Communication and marketing Careers: professionals trained in LEA can work in communications agencies, public relations departments, corporate marketing or communications departments, the media sector, etc. They can also hold positions as international communications officers, international marketing managers, etc. They can also work as international communications officers, international marketing managers, etc.
