Objectives
The bachelor's degree in History from the University of Guyana is a national diploma offering a comprehensive and rewarding course in the humanities and social sciences. Aimed at students wishing to understand the major transformations of the world over the centuries, this course of study is distinguished by its balance between academic rigour and preparation for the world of work, while promoting an international outlook.
By choosing this course, students acquire much more than a degree: they develop a critical view of the world, an ability to adapt and a versatility that is recognised in many professional fields.
The aim of the History degree is to provide students with a solid scientific culture, enabling them to sharpen their critical faculties and better decipher and understand the historical, cultural and geopolitical issues that shape our societies. This rigorous training also aims to give them solid methodological tools, while encouraging a multidisciplinary approach that enables them to establish connections between the fields of history, geography, social sciences and digital humanities.

These scientific and technical skills enable History graduates to work in a wide range of professional sectors, while providing them with a solid foundation for pursuing higher education at Masters level.

- Ability to analyse a variety of documents (texts, images, maps, statistical data) to draw relevant conclusions.
- Deciphering and interpreting complex events

- Knowing how to construct issues, structure research and develop a solid argument
- Mastery of documentary research techniques (use of libraries, digital databases and archives).
- Use of digital tools :
- Familiarity with modern tools such as digital mapping software and geographic information systems (GIS).
- Skills in managing and analysing historical digital data.

- Writing clear, well-structured argumentative texts (essays, dissertations, research reports).
- Ability to present results orally or in writing, using appropriate media.

Admission requirements Licence 1 applicants must go through the Parcoursup application, whether they have passed their baccalaureate this year or are transferring, on the dates set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. At the beginning of the year, a compulsory placement test is organised for all L1 students. This test is used to identify students who need to join the success support scheme. The scheme is inclusive: students who pass all their exams are admitted directly to L2, as are students who do not need this methodological and subject-specific support.
