Presentation

The Licence Langues Enseignement Médiation en Milieu Amazonien (Degree in Languages, Teaching and Mediation in Amazonian Environments) is designed to be in line with the spirit of the new guidelines for the development of regional languages and cultures. This course will enhance the skills of those who work or will work in the fields of education, culture, tourism, sustainable development, interpreting, translation and the audiovisual sector, taking into account their regional environment.

The LEMMA degree explores the richness of the American-Caribbean area, from the Guiana Plateau from its origins to the present day, providing a multi-disciplinary education that enables students to acquire knowledge and skills in the fields of linguistics, literature, anthropology and the history of Creole worlds.

A genuine tool for promoting multilingualism, the regional language and culture degree provides an opportunity to grasp the fundamental aspects of the identity, linguistic, anthropological and cultural issues of French Guyana's communities. This bachelor's degree also provides an opportunity for cross-fertilisation with partner regions and for reflection on regional languages and cultures and their teaching, integrating these specific features into the learning of the French language and ensuring an openness to the local, Amazonian, Caribbean, European and international dimensions, while strengthening the training of future teachers and professionals.

A core curriculum in L1 and L2 provides a solid multi-disciplinary education aimed at acquiring knowledge and skills in the fields of linguistics, literature, anthropology and the history of Amazonian societies. In L3, two pathways will enable students to opt for either the teaching pathway (including in multilingual environments) or the social and territorial development pathway.

Objectives

The aims of this diploma are to enable students, by practising regional languages more intensively, to achieve a higher level of communication and oral and written expression, and to open up to the various aspects of the cultural realities conveyed by these languages and cultures, taking into account both national guidelines and specific local features:

  • Understanding the fundamental aspects of identity, language, anthropology and culture in Guianese and Amazonian societies,
  • To support the educational and socio-professional sector in its efforts to understand and take account of cultural and linguistic realities to ensure harmonious development,
  • Preserving and passing on our rich cultural heritage

Target skills

The Languages, Teaching and Mediation in the Amazonian Environment degree explores the richness of the American-Caribbean region and the Guyana Plateau from its origins to the present day, providing a multi-disciplinary education that enables students to acquire knowledge and skills in the fields of linguistics, literature, anthropology and the history of Amazonian societies.

The LEMMA Bachelor's degree is aimed at motivated students with a background in languages, literature, humanities and social sciences.

Internship

A four-week observation placement is offered in the second year (S4), in consultation with professionals. Each student is supervised by an internship supervisor from the host organisation and is monitored by a teaching supervisor from the university. An internship report is drawn up. It provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in the professional world. Students in the 3th year degree.
