The academic community pays tribute to Gabriel Serville, President of the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana, who passed away on 30 September 2026. The University of French Guiana commends his commitment to education, training, higher education and the young people of French Guiana.
It was with deep sadness that the University of French Guiana learnt of the death of Mr Gabriel Serville, President of the Collectivité de Guyane, on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
A leading figure in the political and institutional life of our territory, Gabriel Serville paid particular attention to education, training and higher education. In this capacity, he guided and supported the University of French Guiana in its ambitions for development, expansion and contribution to the territory’s major challenges.
His commitment to the University and its young people will leave a lasting mark. His passing is a great loss to French Guiana and to the entire academic community.
On my own behalf, and on behalf of the entire university community – students, academic staff and other members of staff – I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, his children, his family and his loved ones.
