DU Teaching in Schools

Objectives

•  Preparing for the competitive examination for school teachers at the end of L3; ;
•  Strengthen the preparation of candidates for the competitive examination for school teachers, particularly those enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (L3) or holding a bac+3, by providing them with specific and structured support for the written and oral tests of the competitive examination; ;
• To offer complementary, professionalising training, focusing on subject mastery, didactics and an understanding of the education system, in the spirit of the competitive examination for the recruitment of schoolteachers at the end of L3 in the 2026 session; ;
•  Responding to the specific needs of French Guyana, the decline in the number of teachers admitted to the competitive examination for the recruitment of school teachers and the need for high-quality support for candidates with 3 years of higher education.

Target skills

The aim of the Professorat des écoles University Diploma is to enable candidates to :
- To master the expectations of the written and oral tests of the 2026 competitive examination for the recruitment of school teachers; ;
- To gain a better understanding of the requirements of the profession of school teacher, within the specific framework of the French education system and the territory of French Guiana; ;
- To master the skills required in the subjects for the competitive examination for the recruitment of school teachers at the end of L3 as part of the reform of teacher training; ;
- Acquire a solid grasp of fundamental knowledge in all subjects taught at primary school, particularly French and mathematics; ;
- Learn didactic and pedagogical skills appropriate to the different cycles of primary school; ;
- Understand republican values and how the French education system works.

Cross-disciplinary skills

The Diplôme Universitaire Professorat des écoles also develops cross-disciplinary skills that are useful beyond the competitive examination:
- Ability to work independently and to self-evaluate ;
- Use of active teaching methods: simulation, critical reflection, appropriation of feedback, etc; ;
- Clear, structured oral communication, particularly in teaching situations; ;
- Ability to work together in a professional environment: group work, resource sharing, self-help forums, etc; ;
- Appropriation of the values of the Republic and the missions of the school.
Scientific and technical skills
Through their science, mathematics, technology and arts courses, students develop :
- An in-depth understanding of the scientific and technical concepts on the primary school curriculum; ;
- Skills for designing and justifying teaching activities based on observation, manipulation or analysis; ;
- Methodological rigour in problem-solving and scientific argumentation; ;
- Familiarity with the process of artistic creation and analysis of works, contributing to a comprehensive education for students.

Subject-specific skills

Each course aims to reinforce the skills specific to the school subjects:
- French: mastery of grammar, spelling, analytical reading, standardised writing (commented dictation, justifications); ;
- Mathematics: problem solving, structured reasoning, manipulating quantities, geometry, data ;
- History-Geography-EMC: chronological references, analysis of documents, links between knowledge and teaching practices; ;
- Science and technology: developing simple scientific reasoning, experimentation, diagramming ;
- Arts: artistic culture, analysis of works of art, plastic arts and music; ;
- Modern foreign language: listening comprehension, continuous speaking, simple interaction ;
- Oral tests: construction of teaching sequences, didactic analysis, presentation of a professional dossier, knowledge of the education system.

- Students enrolled in L3 ;
- Graduates at bac+3 level wishing to prepare for the CRPE; ;
- Returning students with a bac+3 ;
- Contract staff or education assistants preparing for the competition as independent candidates ;
- Anyone with the administrative prerequisites to apply for the competitive examination for the recruitment of school teachers at the end of L3 in the 2026 session.
